Workplace Nones was founded by Yvonne Sullivan, a nonreligious individual, after she experienced religious discrimination at a U.S. Fortune 500 company in 2024. She felt the DEI team relied on nonreligious employees either not knowing their rights or being too afraid to speak up. They were denied an employee resource group (ERG), while Christian, Muslim, and Jewish groups had been granted them. Believing that discrimination against nonreligious employees is common in the American workplace, she decided to address the issue on a national scale.
The mission is simple: to advocate for and empower nonreligious people in the American workplace, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. The focus is on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, undertaking educational initiatives and providing resources. Nonreligious employees are taught their rights and how to navigate the workplace openly. Too many of them feel forced to conceal their identity for fear of discrimination and stigma.
By working together, we can create positive change and ensure an American workplace where all individuals feel valued and accepted.
